HM65 это не сокет. Сокет это процессорный разъем, а то что Вы спросили микросхема PCH (в общем чипсетная микросхема с функциями северного и южного мостов) , в данном случае микросхема разрабатывалась для ноутбуков, соответственно под процессоры поколения Sandy Bridge. А процы эти бывают и в сокете и под пайку прямиком на плату. Часто в BIOS прописано только парочка другая процессоров, с остальными вариантами можно побриться Спросите лучше, назвав точно марку своего компа, что там с заменами.

Немного о сокете процессоров

Socket G2 , также именуемый как rPGA988В , является процессорным разъемом Intel для своей серии мобильных процессоров Celeron, Pentium, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7 второго и позднее — третьего поколения и замещает собой мобильные процессоры первого поколения. Процессоры Socket G2 основаны на архитектуре Intel Sandy Bridge и выполнены по 32-нм техпроцессу, поздние для этого сокета вышли процессоры улучшенной архитектуры Ivy Bridge на 22-нм. В этих процессорах используется внутренняя шина QPI для связи между ядрами и встроенным контроллером PCI-Express. Подсистема памяти процессоров Socket G2 может работать самое большее в двухканальном режиме со скоростями DDR3-1066, DDR3-1333 и DDR3-1600, в зависимости от используемого процессора.

Одновременно с новыми процессорами, Intel выпустила 6-ю серию мобильных чипсетов для материнских плат ноутбуков: HM65 , HM67 , QM67 , QS67 и UM67 , совместимых с гнездом Socket G2 (rPGA988В). Затем, в 2012 году, была выпущена 7-я серия мобильных чипсетов Intel, с поддержкой новых процессоров на ядре Ivy Bridge и частичной поддержкой предыдущих процессоров на ядре Sandy Bridge. Однако, из-за изменений в электрическом интерфейсе процессоров на ядре Ivy Bridge, они не могут быть совместимы с материнскими платами основанными на чипсетах 6-ой серии для процессоров на ядре Sandy Bridge. 7-я серия мобильных чипсетов Intel состояла из следующих чипсетов: HM70 , HM75 , HM76 , HM77 , QM77 , QS77 , UM77 .

Типы корпусов процессоров:

В спецификации процессоров, на сайте Intel, у каждого процессора указан его тип корпуса. Для серии мобильных процессоров Core i7 второго и третьего поколения встречаются следующие корпуса: PGA988, PPGA988, FCPGA988 и FCBGA1023, FCBGA1224. Число обозначает количество электрических контактов.

  1. PGA (Pin Grid Array) — корпус с матрицей выводов. Представляет собой квадратный или прямоугольный корпус с расположенными в нижней части штыревыми контактами ;
  2. PPGA (Plastic Pin Grid Array) — это PGA корпус в пластиковом исполнении;
  3. FCPGA (Flip-Chip Pin Grid Array) — одна из модификации корпуса PPGA. В данном корпусе открытый кристалл процессора расположен на верхней части корпуса.
  4. FCBGA (Flip-Chip Ball Grid Array) — представляет собой корпус PGA, в котором штырьковые контакты заменены на шарики припоя . В данном корпусе открытый кристалл процессора расположен на верхней части корпуса.

Отсюда следует, что для разъёма процессора Socket G2 (rPGA988B) без раницы как обозначен в спецификации корпус процессора, главное чтобы было указано PGA988 или PPGA988 или же FCPGA988 . Они все одинаково подойдут, что PGA988, что PPGA988, что FCPGA988. Если сказать другими словами — для нас это одно и то же (Socket G2, он же rPGA988B).

Однако процессоры Intel второго и третьего поколения Core i7 выпускались и в корпусах FCBGA1023 и FCBGA1224 . Процессоры в исполнении FCBGA1023 и FCBGA1224 просто так заменить не получиться — такие процессоры намертво припаяны к материнской плате при помощи массива шариков.

Примечание: Некоторые процессоры, выпускались в двух корпусах, как в PGA988 (PPGA988, FCPGA988), так и в FCBGA1023. Если в вашем ноутбуке установлен именно такой процессор и вы не знаете в каком именно корпусе, то рекомендую вам для начала разобрать ноутбук и убедиться, что ваш процессор не припаян к материнской плате (не FCBGA1023), а обычный Socket G2 процессор в PGA988 (PPGA988, FCPGA988) корпусе.

Выбор процессора на замену

Итак, как же выбрать процессор для апгрейда? Выбирать надо так, чтобы не ошибиться при покупке и не поломать свой ноутбук установкой «неправильного« процессора.

Опишу основные моменты, на что надо обратить внимание при выборе процессора:

1. Поколение процессора

Первое, что надо знать, к какому поколению относится ваш «старый» процессор. Другими словами, определить, он второго поколения (Sandy Bridge 32-нм техпроцесс) для 6-ой серии мобильных чипсетов или же более нового поколения (Ivy Bridge 22-нм техпроцесс) для 7-ой серии мобильных чипсетов. Это можно сделать просмотрев два списка процессоров ниже на этой странице. Найдя свой «старый» процессор в одном из них вы определите поколение своего процессора. Если вы не нашли свой процессор ни в одном из этих списков — возможно он совсем другого поколения (не второго и третьего) и вам нужно перейти к другой статье, где рассмотрены замены других поколений процессоров.

Выбирать «новый» процессор вам потребуется, скорее всего, в пределах того же списка процессоров в котором находится ваш «старый» процессор. Однако есть исключение, когда у вас в ноутбуке установлен процессор второго поколения (Sandy Bridge), а чипсет материнской платы — 7-ой серии, для второго и третьего поколений процессоров. В этом случае возможна будет замена процессора, на процессор более нового поколения из списка .

2. Cерия чипсета материнской платы

После определения поколения процессора, необходимо определиться с чипсетом материнской платы. Другими словами, определить, принадлежит чипсет к 6-ой серии мобильных чипсетов (HM65, HM67, QM67, QS67 и UM67) или же более новой, 7-ой серии мобильных чипсетов Intel (HM70, HM75, HM76, HM77, QM77, QS77 или UM77).

Чтобы точно определить чипсет матринской платы ноутбука, вам надо будет скачать любую версию программы AIDA64 и посмотреть в ней информацию о чипсете материнской платы — название чипсета. На фото ниже показано в каком разделе программы указано название чипсета:

У нас на фото указано название северного моста (North Bridge) чипсета как: Intel Ivy Bridge-E IMC . Из этого следует, что в ноутбуке материнская плата 7-ой серии мобильных чипсетов. Для ноутбуков с материнскими платами 6-ой серии мобильных чипсетов будет указан чипсет: Intel Sandy Bridge-MB IMC .

Узнав серию чипсета, мы определим теоретических кандидатов из списка процессоров. Учтите, что на материнские платы 6-ой серии чипсетов подойдут только процессоры из списка процессоров . А вот на материнские платы 7-ой серии чипсетов подойдут как процессоры из списка так и некоторые процессоры из списка .

3. Тепловой пакет процессора

Тепловой пакет процессора — это одно из основных ограничений, которые необходимо учитывать. Найдя свой «старый» процессор в одном из списков, смотрим его характеристики. В характеристиках указан такой параметр как TDP . У большинстра процессоров он равен значению 35W. Другими словами, ваш процессор во время своей «тяжелой» работы может выделять до 35 Ватт энергии в виде тепла.

Производители ноутбука, при проектировании и изготовлении, обычно расчитывают систему охлаждения ноутбука именно для того, чтобы она смогла вывести эту тепловую энергию из корпуса ноутбука и процессор, как и весь ноутбук, при этом не перегревался. Перегрев процессора может приводить к аварийным выключениям питания ноутбука, перезагрузкам во время работы и даже к поломке ноутбука.

Отсюда делаем выводы. Из кандидатов в «новые» процессоры лучше удалить те процессоры, у которых TDP выше чем у вашего «старого» процессора , иначе после апгрейда вы можете получить перегревы процессора и все вытекающие из этого последствия.

Однако можно рискнуть и выбрать «новый» процессор на замену с TDP большим на 10W по стравнению с TDP «старого». Я бы посоветовал это делать только в том случае, что ваш «старый» процессор при «тяжелой» работе хорошо охлаждался и его температуры были до 55-60 градусов или ниже — система охлаждения хорошо справлялась с охлажением «старого» процессора.

Совет: Не поленитесь и «прошерстите» Гугл на предмет существования комплектаций вашего ноутбука с другими, более мощными процессорами. Скорее всего когда вы покупали ноутбук, то эти же модели ноутбуков продавались также и с более мощными процессорами. Тем самым вы узнаете, расчитана ли система охлаждения на такие процессоры.

Для подавляющего большинства ноутбуков на чипсетах 6-ой серии установка четырехъядерных процессоров вместо двухъядерных невозможна по причине высокого TDP четырехъядерных процессоров второго поколения (Sandy Bridge). Для апгрейда «слабого» процессора Sandy Bridge рекомендую выбрать что-то из Core i5-2xx0M или i7-26x0M .

Для чипсетов 7-ой серии HM70 , у которых не поддерживаются процессоры Core, рекомендуемые для установки процессоры: Pentium 2020M и 2030M иначе ноутбук будет выключаться через 30 минут работы.

На чипсеты 7-ой серии HM76 , HM77 также рекомендуют для установки двухъядерные i5-3xx0M , i7-35x0M , или же четырехъядерные i7-3612QM и i7-3632QM .

Особенности процессоров Intel второго и третьего поколения Core i7

Процессоры для Socket G2 могут работать на частотах вплоть до 3 ГГц в номинальном режиме.

У процессоров на ядре Sandy Bridge, произведённых по нормам 32нм, имеется шина PCI-Express версии 2.0. А вот у процессоров на ядре Ivy Bridge, произведённых по нормам 22нм, имеется более новая шина PCI-Express версии 3.0.

Все процессоры имеют графическое ядро. Графическое ядро является частью общего кристалла процессора.

Примеры удачных апгрейдов процессора:
  1. У меня была замена Pentium B960 на Intel Core i7-3610QM . У первого TDP 35W у второго 45W, разницы по тепловыделению никакой. Температура в нагрузке 62, в простое 39. Если честно, после апгрейда с Pentium B960 на Core i7-3610QM разницу увидел только в попугаях, во всяких AIDA и немного при конвертировании видео. Ну еще в оценке производительности Windows 7 было у CPU оценка 6.1 — стало 7.6.
  2. Менял процессор на ноутбуке Samsung 300v5a, установил Intel Core i5-2540M . Хорошо работает.
  3. Проц Intel Core i3-2350M работает в ASUS X54H, можно брать!
  4. Заказывал Intel Core i5-2540M вместо i3-2310M на свой Acer. Процессор запустился и работает.
  5. Покупал Intel Core i5-2430M для ноутбука Dell Inspirion N5050, установка прошла без проблем!
  6. Всё отлично! Поставил Intel Core i5-2540M вместо Pentium B960 на своем Acer E1-531G.
  7. Установил Intel Core i5-2540M в ноут Lenovo G570. Индекс производительности Виндовс 7 вырос на проце с 4.9 до 7.1.
  8. Купил Intel Core i5-2540M . Сам проц без проблем встал в Lenovo B570e. Все завелось без проблем.
  9. Поменял процессор в ноутбуке Samsung np300e4a-a01ru c Pentium B940 на Intel Core i5-2540M . Всё работает.
  10. Брал Intel Core i5-2540M на замену i3-2350М , ноутбук Asus K53SM, завелся без проблем. Разница в производительности видна на глаз. Горячее чем i3 на 7-10 градусов.
  11. Поставил Intel Core i5-3230M на Lenovo g780, ноутбук теперь просто летает.
  12. Поставил Intel Core i5-2540M взамен Pentium B960 , ноутбук Acer E1-531G, работает заметно быстрее, запустился без прошивки биос-а. Особо не греется, TDP 35w, встроенное охлаждение справляется.
  13. Intel Core i5-2540M установлен на Samsung RV520 вместо i3-2310M. Всё работает, но под нагрузкой с TurboBoost в LinX греется, временами сваливаясь в небольшой тротлинг.
  14. Поставила Intel Core i7-2760QM в HP 4530s — работает отлично.
  15. Процессор Intel Core i5-3230M встал как родной на Lenovo Z580.
  16. Поставил Intel Core i5-2540M на Lenovo B570e вместо Celeron B800 . Встало без проблем, только греется сильнее селерона, градусов так до 75 под нагрузкой.

Линейка профессионально-ориентированных моноблоков компании MSI пополнилась очередной новинкой – MSI Wind Top AP1612. Главным образом она предназначена для использования в офисах, магазинах, торговых помещениях и других подобных заведениях.

Модель MSI Wind Top AP1612 базируется на мобильной платформе предыдущего поколения (Intel Huron River), которая тем не менее характеризуется достаточным уровнем производительности и состоит из недавно представленного двухъядерного процессора Intel Celeron B830 и чипсета Intel HM65 Express.

Состоялся официальный анонс нового моноблока , в основе которого находится платформа Intel Huron River. Новинка оснащается одним из двухъядерных процессоров (Intel Core i3-2310M /Intel Core i5-2410M) и чипсетом Intel HM65 Express.

Техническая спецификация нового моноблока

Мобильные процессоры AMD Trinity потребляют меньше энергии, чем Intel Ivy Bridge

В сравнительном тесте между презентационным ноутбуком с мобильным процессором AMD Trinity и ноутбуками ASUS N56VM (процессор – Intel Ivy Bridge) и ASUS N53S (процессор – Intel Sandy Bridge), первый проработал значительно больше времени. Также участвовал ноутбук с процессором AMD Llano.

Для теста у всех ноутбуков яркость была установлена на 100 км/м 2 , чтобы сравнять их потребление энергии в части дисплея. После установки таких настроек получилось, что яркость дисплея ноутбука с AMD Trinity стала 40-процентной от стандартной, а у ASUS N56VM и ASUS N53S она стала 25- и 45-процентной соответственно. Следует еще сказать, что ноутбук с AMD Trinity имеет меньший аккумулятор по сравнению со своими оппонентами.

По результатам можно сделать вывод, что ноутбук с AMD Trinity проработал на 46 % и на 70 % дольше, чем ASUS N56VM и ASUS N53S соответственно. Видно, что AMD очень тщательно поработала над процессорами Trinity, и они по своей энергосберегательности обходят как процессоры 3-го поколения Intel, так и 2-го, ни говоря уж о Llano.

Во время выставки CES 2012 компания ZOTAC представила пару мини-комьютеров, созданных на базе платформы Intel Huron River. Новинки получили название и ID82 . В их основе находится чипсет Intel HM65 Express и двухъядерные процессоры Intel Celeron 867 и Intel Core i3-2330M соответственно.

I doubt it. That quad core i7 is 45W TDP. I would stick to a 35W i7 like the 2620M or 2640M. They can be purchased on eBay for about $160-$200 as of this posting.

Yep I upgraded my Toshiba Satellite notebook from the paltry Intel Pentium B960 to the much more powerful Core i7-2760QM! Worked flawlessly. I also had fears of the unknown — since no one had tried it then or posted about it, only feedback was it might work or not. It worked, partly because Toshiba didn’t cripple the Chipset like some of manufacturers do (LOOKING at YOU HP & Dell. ) Then my other concern was of the TDP, the B960 was a dual-core 35W part but my desired upgrade was a quad-core 45W processor!! It worked might have faced a few thermal issues with flawed Windows! So now I’m running Linux (Pop OS distro) and it runs so well! No thermal throttling, save for a few intensive tasks such as Photo editing which is very little compared to what I usually use it for! If you do upgrade, just get one of those vacuum coolers for your cpu’s exhaust port to aid with thermals. I got one just because of this and I haven’t used it, not once. because I don’t overtask my processor and second, my OS is much more coherent than MS Windows and their broken SYSTEM.

One of the key reasons for upgrading was core count, hyper-threading and the GPU. Pentium B950 had the Intel HD Graphics GPU, dual core and no HT, Core i7-2760QM has Intel HD 3000, quad core and HT! Windows 10 is really compatible with HD 3000 so I’m looking forward to the HD 4000 on the quad core i7-3610QE!

Sadly I haven’t gotten to this project update! Partly because of those insane used CPU prices for a part that’s nearly a decade old. And second, they are barely obtainable! You get a good price and it’s gone. my search queries were mainly on Amz since I can’t shop on eBay with their paypal crap!
It’s still on my mind, if I do get a sensible, reasonable price! This is till on my mind because I love the whole notion of upgradeabilty for notebooks, it helps curb e-Waste and unnecessary tech purchases down the line every now and then!

Sorry to post in the wrong place, but I read that my comments would be moved to the correct place once read by an admin. A friend gave me an Albatron PX865PE Pro. Included was a Pentium 4 3.2 GHZ 512/800 SL6WG MALAY L326B448 M337A375.

The board and case appear to be in pretty good shape, except for a lot of dust and some cigarette smoke buildup. I did get it to post a few times but after it warms up, it just dies. I have determined that the MPGA478B Socket is not locking the CPU in correctly. When I remove the heat sink, the CPU comes right out of the socket. (yes it was inserted correctly and locked down).

After further investigation, I noticed that when the socket is open (ready for CPU) everything looks good. When you close the lever (as if you had just installed the CPU) the plastic can be moved slightly to the left and right. I thought since you guys are working with these things everyday that you might have experienced this before and come up with a fix for it. Or can the socket be replaced?

Intel’s sixth-generation mobile chipsets do not officially support Ivy Bridge processors. So, officially it will not work with i7-3820QM. I have no idea whether laptop manufacturers on their own can add support for the new chips or not.

I replaced my Intel B960 cpu with an Intel i3-2370m and it works great. I have since went to asus site and updated the bios and am thinking of trying an i5-3230m with hd4000 graphics(3rd gen). It ought to work since the numbers overlap and the frequency on the memory is sdr3-1333,which is the memory soldered into the board. I ordered a 4gb ram stick (sdr3-1333) since I know that the board supports that. However, I don’t know if 1600 frequency is supported by my board(hm65) even after the update. So, if your gonna do this make sure the processor can run the 1333 (or lower) frequency which is what your board supports for sure. Anything over that wouldn’t work and also make sure the memory type is an exact fit for your board for any ram or cpu expansion.

well id recommend the 35w or less cpu for cooling reasons but a 45w should work also the socket revision doesnt normally effect anythings if its socket g2 they should all fit the same socket it has to do with what the bios supports asus may have locked it to 1 multiplier and such so your cpu may run at a low speed the stock asus also sells a k54c with a Core i3-2350M which is a ppga988 which is probably the same motherboard

If you change i5 to i7 — check your AC Adapter in my case i must swap Asus 90W to 120W (90W= 19V 4,74A to 120W=19V 6,30A) because Intel Core i7-2630Qm has TDP=45W ,i3-2310m has TDP=35W.

Well did my research on here and managed to upgrade my Lenovo B570 w/ a B960 in it to a I5-2520M. Very fast now and it is nice having a little upgrade to the graphics. I can play most modern games on the lowest settings or close to low settings. It multitask very well. Only problem is make sure you have your laptop elevated as since this is a upgrade from stock, it will run hot. The average temp I get is around 55 Celsius or 131 Fahrenheit and the hottest I have ever got was 89 Celsius or 192.2 Fahrenheit. The max heat it will take is a 100 Celsius before auto shutdown so be careful running that hot for a long amount of time. Make sure you put your thermal paste down enough to cover the whole CPU die.

It’s actually funny that you posted this almost 14 days ago, as I never check this thread till now. I have not experience any shut down, just MASSIVE amounts of overheating because the B96O was only only a dual core with no virtual threads and low integrated graphics. Either Way, she performs exceptionally well, very happy with my upgrade. I am though upgrading again to the I7-3612 as I enjoy gaming a lot and being able to not worry about heating since the 3rd Gen I7 runs at a 35w Quad core with HD 4OOO integrated graphics. I am truly hoping that the Ivy Bridge works with my motherboard. I will literally start crying. aha Pertaining to your problem though, you may want to dload Core Temp or something like that and check to see how hot it is truly getting. The most I have ever peaked was 1O1 celsius, WELL past the max TDP.

Intel says the opposite — the HM65 chipset supports 3rd generation embedded processors. There are embedded boards in the wild that use that combination, here is one: www. itox.com/products/ProductDetails-hr902-bl.php . I’m sure that Ivy Bridge support requires some changes to board design, but it doesn’t negate the fact that the chipset can work with those processors. And don’t forget — this page lists CPUs, supported by the chipset, not by some older boards, based on the chipset.

Just use throttlestop program to lock in a lower multiplier and turn off hyperthreading in bios. This will give you lower temperatures and is what I do with my 3830tg with 2630qm.

I believe it’s not supported. To support i3/5/7/-3xxx Ivy Bridge processors the 6-series chipsets require some minor changes on hardware level, which is why most, if not all of the boards do not support Ivy Bridge CPUs.

You can’t replace the chipset if you don’t have soldering skills and special equipment because the chipset is soldered to the motherboard. You may be able to find a replacement motherboard on eBay, but replacing the complete board could be a difficult task (it depends on the notebook design).

Upgraded bios to latest on toshiba website before installing new cpu. Just swapped old one with new and fired up right away. No problems running continuously for 2 days now.
Temperature under normal load . 55-60 deg C
Temperature under extreme load . 88-90 deg C

Performance increase is noticeable, especially on video playback.

Now I wish try to replace 2820QM with 3612QE because it have 35W TDP just like it need to be for my notebook. Also in last 5 months I have BSOD problem related to GPU part of CPU (I post my problem details on Intel forum and intel admin say that this is CPU graphic problem). My notebook have HD3000 + Radeon 6630M

My notebook get updated CPU microcodes in last BIOS update but I don’t know for which CPUs it add support.

What you Think are replacing is worth to try?

Your socket is in fact a PGA988 or a Socket G2 / Socket rPGA988, there is NO rPGA989 socket!

In the Socket G2/Socket rPGA988 there should be no problems with an i5-2540M, you must have done something wrong with the installation or something is faulty with your system.

My 5750-2414 Socket G2 came with an Intel Core i5 2410M CPU and the HM65 Chipset, I upgraded the CPU to a 2540M (2 Core 4 Threads/2.6-3.3GHz/ L1-512MH L3-3MB/35W TDP) with no problems, it works really well, its got no problems, it doesn’t overheat and has no rebooting issues or shut down issues, its like a new computer. But I also installed an SSD HDD which helps also.

I notice that your i5-2450M is not in Intel HM65 Express chipset processor support list as you can see.

Please let me know if you find a solution, that cpu upgrade should work fine i think.

There are 3 i5-2450M processors:

SR06Z — socket FCBGA1023

SR0CH — socket PPGA988 (your socket, i think).

SR04Z — socket FCBGA1023

If your computer boot you can try to perform a clean install.

Boot from DVD and install windows and the most important, DON�T install Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics.

If your notebook boot you may have a graphics incompatibility, Intel HD3000 integrated and ATI HD6470M, i�m almost sure they don�t like each other. If it boot, your work around is about this for sure.

Also be sure that you assemble notebook properly after upgrade.

Just a thought, let us know giving your best feedback.

Other possibility is Asus f***ed up microcode with latest bios updates .

Related to your overheating with i3-2330 with K54LY mother-board, that should not happen. Did you replace thermal compound with a good one? For example Artic Silver 5? Try to put your notebook in the top of those bases with good funs .. If you need try to balance power options, not always performance ones.

Whats is your exact Notebook Model? See it in bottom label and tell me all that is written there please. Also, what bios version do you use?

I can tell you for sure your processor can operate with 32GB ram as you can see here:

So, if a mother-board can hold your processor (i7-2670QM), in theory (probably) you can use 16GB on that mother board or even 32GB. Only concern is the bios microcode . sometimes bios can limit some stuff like memory or processor upgrade, in that scenario you will need a modded bios.

However be careful cause 1st gen i7 does not have integrated graphics on chip resulting in no signal to monitor with nvidia optimus, ati works just fine.

What is the overlay ? Seen lots of green ceramic looking cpu’s but never one with this sort of copper colored marbleized almost translucent overlay.

Afraid to try to remove it as I used a ton of alcohol on it to clean the old thermal paste and scraped on its inner edge there with my finger nail removing paste.. seem stuck on permanent.

Whats it for. anybody seen this before ? The overlay has me concerned.

I basically replaced i3-2310M green topped processor with this new/used one. Temps seem ok — actually cores are idling at 84F, cooler than the oem one idle at usual 108F and was almost swimming in Lenovo G570 thermal paste.

You need to stay with a SandyBridge cpu. ivy Bridge cpu will not work in the HM65.

I just changed out an i5 for an I7-2620M in my Lenovo laptop.. and while it normally is normal type temperatures it still pulls more wats at idle . under load it will instantly show 32watts which is really pushing the max heat design and creating heat fast. So its not going to run long at boosted speeds.

I would guess a 45 watt quad core replacing a 35 watt two core on a computer will probably want some extra cooling, at idle even. Hard thing to get, extra cooling, in a laptop.

I replaced an original Lenovo laptops i3-2310m on an HM65 Mobile Express Chipset with the i7-2620m cpu Has a single copper heat pipe kind of a cheap design — its working fine here. I bought it a new fan maybe $10us delivered.

As long as you’re replacing it with the same Generation cpu & with the Same maximum wattage (35w) — it should be fine.

i7- 2620m will pull about 0.5watts more current at idle as it has the premium feature set all enabled .. so basic idle temp while surfing normal web browsing is maybe 1c warmer and it will heat up faster under load because its much higher frequency, so you want good thermal compound applied with care and a clean fan blade and clean laptop breathing vents. The cleaner everything is the better and faster things cool.

Hola mark me imagino que llevaras un procesador i5 2410m, puedes cambiar tu procesador por otro i5 2540m el cual ter dara mayor velocidad de frecuencia como en turbo o ya hacer el paso a i7 donde te recomiendo montar i7 2640m o ya dar el paso a la serie QM donde duplicas el numero de cores y de hilos soportados, la memoria cache tambien es doblada, asi como acepta ram con frecuencia 1600. Te recomiendo i7 2820QM o 2860QM

Hi Jorge really you can upgrade your i5 2430M to i7 2860QM. The different TDP will not be an inconvenince, only you will have more consumption, and I recomend get better refrigersation.

I did a successful upgrade from Dual Core B950 to i5 2410, it’s stable and running at normal temperatures. Bios were updated months back so yes you need a bios update.

i have acer aspire 5750G , and can use any 2nd gen intel i7 processor on it.
(Currently it has i5-2430M, but I will swap it to i7 later on today..)

Your laptop supports 2nd gen Sandy Bridge processors, and i7-3x is 3rd gen Ivy Bridge,so it will not work.
Only if your Bios supports it, check your manufacturer for possible Bios updates..

Hey, I have samsung NP300 with HM65 and i3 2330m, wanted to upgrade to something with hd4000 graphics, I bought 3230m that was tested and working, installed into my laptop. Nothing happened after powering up (no signal on the screen, fan working maximum speed, HDD LED blinks for a second when i power it up but later does not light).

The Intel Quad Core i7 2760M processor supports DDR3-1600 MHz memory and does not seem to fit the Intel HM65 chipset that only supports DDR3-1066 MHz and DDR3-1333 MHz memory.
Depends on your laptop model, if your HP Probook 4530s laptop model has the AMD Radeon 6490M graphics card, you can upgrade to the Intel Quad Core 2670QM processor.
The HP Probook 4530s laptop with integrated HD Graphics 3000 (UMA) card does NOT support Intel Quad Core processor. In the latter case, the maximum upgrade you can make is the 2.7 GHz Intel Dual Core 2620M processor (Turbo up to 3.4 GHz).

I succesfully replaced an original HP Pavilion G6-1310sx laptop i3-2330M 2.2 GHz on an HM65 Mobile Express Chipset with the i7-2620M 2.7 GHz.
As long as you’re replacing it with the same generation CPU & with the same maximum wattage TDP 35W — it should be fine.
i7- 2620M will pull about 0.5 Watts more current at idle as it has the premium feature set all enabled . so basic idle temp while surfing normal web browsing is maybe 1c warmer and it will heat up faster under load because its much higher frequency, so you want good thermal compound applied with care and a clean fan blade and clean laptop breathing vents. The cleaner everything is the better and faster things cool.

Hello all,
I just upgraded my laptop HP Probook 4530s with I3-2330M and integrated graphic card Intel HD 3000 to I7-2670QM.
So it is possible, although the I3-2330M is 35w and has 2 cores and the I7-2670QM is 45w and has 4 cores.

I have an acer aspire 5749 and I have managed to upgrade from an i3 to an i7 2860qm. It works perfectly. Does anyone know if that model can be upgraded to 16gb of ram? He conseguido una memoria PC3L 12800 de 8Gb y la he mezclado con la que ya ten�a PC3 10600 4Gb. El sistema funciona perfectamente con 12Gb y mezclando PC3 con PC3L.
Por tanto, es de suponer que el sistema soporta los 16 Gb de RAM.
I got a PC3L 12800 8GB memory and mixed it with the one that already had PC3 10600 4Gb. The system works perfectly with 12Gb and mixing PC3 with PC3L.

Yes you can! I’m not sure of the CPU sockets of both Cores mentioned of the top of my head, but if they both use the same socket, bingo! You can definitely upgrade the memory to 16GB from 4GB, just check that the speed is compatible with the max of the CPU, the Core i7-2860QM maxes out at DDR3-1600

Fantastic. Performance increased greatly!
CPU temperature of the i7 is not higher as my old i3 . (both TDP 35W)
I can confirm that Sony Vaio VPCEJ successfully supports i7-2640M !!
First I made a RAM upgrade (16Gb), then upgrade to SSD (instead of DVDROM), also kept my old HDD.
Now I have also upgraded the CPU and the overall performance is remarkable!

Today (May 10, 2023) I removed the i5-2410M @ 2.30GHz uP from my Vaio VPCEJ1AFX (VPCEJ) w/ BIOS R0180Z9, and replaced it with a i7-2860QM.

I didn�t expect it to work w/o a BIOS change, but� I hit the power button and the Windows 11 �loading� screen appeared in a jiffy.

A bit of checking with CPU-Z, HWinfo64 and Win11�s own �Resource Monitor� and �Device Manager� show four cores / eight �CPUs� (hyperthreading). Maybe this information will help somebody else.

Evidently this BIOS on this platform enables the i7-2860QM.

Just yesterday upgraded my Lenovo B570e CPU from Celeron B800 (1.5Ghz, L3-2MB) to i5-2520m (2.5Ghz [Turbo 3.2Ghz], L3-3MB). Before upgrade i had Intel HD now i have Intel HD 3000. All works fine. Windows CPU experience index is increased from 4.3 to 7.1.
